His career in line clearance spans more than a decade, but his journey began well before that.

After graduating from high school, Ben spent two years working in line clearance before answering another call to service—joining the United States Marines. Following five years in the Marines, he pursued paramedic certification and spent time working in emergency services before eventually returning to the vegetation management industry.

Looking back, Ben says he never expected his career path to land where it has.

“I never really had a clear view of this point in my life and where I thought I would be,” he explains. “It’s more about going down the path and figuring out what you like, what you don’t like, what you’re good at—and that’s what led me here.”

Ben first heard about Lewis long before he joined the company. While working for a previous employer, he often asked crews who had come from other companies about their experiences. The answers were usually the same—complaints and negative stories. But one conversation stood out.

“I remember the first time I talked to a group that had come from Lewis,” Ben says. “They all said the same thing—it’s a good company. They talked positively about the way people were treated, the benefits, and how the company was run. That really stuck with me.”

Years later, when a safety specialist position opened with Lewis, Ben remembered that conversation. After discussing the opportunity with his wife and going through the interview process, he knew it was the right move.

“I could tell the morals at this company were high,” he says. “Everybody genuinely seemed to enjoy working here.”

Today, what stands out most to Ben about Lewis is the leadership and the people.

“I think this company is being steered in a very good direction,” he says. “I have a lot of faith in the people we have at the helm.”

As someone responsible for supporting teams across a large geographic area, Ben focuses on one key principle—staying connected and being present.

“I think a lot of leaders can get caught up in the day-to-day grind,” he says. “But it’s important to spend quality time with your team—whether that’s face-to-face or just making the effort to check in and see where everyone’s at.”

And if someone in the industry asked Ben what it’s like to work at Lewis? His answer is simple. “It’s a good company. It’s a good place—you won’t regret it.”

Ben Baker’s story reflects the values that define Lewis Services: dedication, teamwork, and a commitment to supporting the people who make the company strong.
