Leadership in Action Principles

At Lewis, we are taking bold steps to put Leadership in Action with a company-wide initiative that recognizes, empowers, and uplifts Leaders at Every Level.  During this exciting journey, we are focusing on these seven leadership principles and incorporating them into every safety call and storm response, across all divisions and departments.

Throughout the year, we will be celebrating Lewis leaders on our social media channels, highlighting Leadership in Action stories in Lewis’ e-magazine The Cutting Edge, and bringing each Lewis Leadership Principle to life on this page with special articles and videos featuring Lewis Leaders across the company.

Must be present to win. When we’re fully engaged, accountable to one another, and purposefully present, we—Lewis colleagues, customers and communities—all win.

What you permit you promote. Failure to take action or speak up may be interpreted as implied consent and unwittingly give permission for behaviors that are counter to Lewis culture.

Trust but verify. As part of our accountability to one another, our company, and customers, we must be committed to due diligence, ask the important questions, and use data to drive results.

“No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” – President Theodore Roosevelt
In a highly variable industry where risks emerge on a daily basis, it is critically important for Lewis leaders to authentically care about the people with whom they interact – employees, peers, customers, suppliers and partners.

Never confuse activity with results. Activity without clear goals and strategy is often a fruitless output of energy—but activity guided by strategy will lead to results.

Do what you say you’re going to do. “Leadership in action” means taking personal responsibility, being accountable, establishing expectations, and following through on commitments.

Be the leader, employee and supplier you wish you had. Leadership development involves the strengthening of one’s own knowledge and skills while also supporting the growth of coworkers and advancement of our organization.
